Well, this one escaped the last Substack. I don’t know if Garuda would qualify as “Vimana”, but here we have 2 folks flying over a Dravidian City (again, big thanks to the late Jim Harter for the 2 books printed in Germany, 1846 or so about India).
This piece of course has the added joy of Lord Vishnu With Goddess Lakshmi (on Garuda) I could of sworn it was of Krsna & Lakshmi, due to the blue tone of skin, but I have been wrong before. Even so, Krsna is an incarnation (the ninth to be exact) of Vishnu, so there is that.
Krsna has always fascinated me. From my earlier readings (precocious 14 year old that I was) of the Bhagavad Gita. The dialog between Krsna & Arjuna (that eternal dialog between the human and divine) has stayed with me my whole life, influencing me along the lines of commitment to action, to repose and to acceptance of fate in many aspects.
Anyway, this was a fun one to put together, from the background pattern(s) (more than one!) to the birds flying over one of the temples…
So, does it qualify as a “Vimana” illustration?
I will leave that with you.
Thanks,
G
In my transitioning from monotheism, Krsna helped bridge the gap as my young mind focused on the similarities between him and Jesus. This was a brief transition period, I moved on to other mythologies in the following years.
A favourite piece from those earlier times: I would play this on the record player whilst meditating on the green and tumbling world just outside the window…
Thank you for Visiting!
